Experienced Clinical Data Scientist to Serve as Head of Data and Analytics

Redwood City, CA – December 23, 2020 – Wider Circle, an innovative community care organization working with health plans and providers to connect neighbors for better health, today announced that Thomas Carlough, PharmD, has joined the company as head of data and analytics. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Wider Circle as health plans are increasingly looking for advanced levels of data to more efficiently and effectively track member engagement and associated health outcomes.

The company’s unique technology solutions, which are central to the Wider Circle Connect for Life® program and instrumental in its successful track record of fostering connections among neighbors to promote social interaction, include using proprietary algorithms for member grouping to maximize program participation and results. Wider Circle’s solution also incorporates artificial intelligence-powered outreach and member management portals to streamline case management and to tailor communication, at scale.

As the head of data and analytics, Dr. Carlough will be responsible for overseeing the development of next-generation algorithms for member grouping and quality improvement. This will advance clinical and quality program measurement and improve the company’s overall analytics department, which aligns operations with business strategy. He will report directly to Wider Circle’s president and chief operating officer, Darin Buxbaum.

“I am thrilled to join Wider Circle at such an exciting time for the organization. I am equally intrigued by the opportunity to scale Wider Circle’s data and analytics offering to support the company’s rapid growth and expanding health plan reporting requirements,” said Dr. Thomas Carlough. “It is a pleasure to be part of such a mission-driven organization that is having such a tangible impact on the health of our most vulnerable populations.”

Dr. Carlough brings to the role over a decade of experience in healthcare informatics and data science with exposure to the front lines of clinical service, provider networks, hospitals and health plans. Most recently, he served as the director of analytics and data science at Atlantic Health System. He holds a Doctorate in Pharmacy from Temple University.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Thomas Carlough to the Wider Circle IT leadership team and look forward to the influence he will have on our organization’s data science function,” said Darin Buxbaum, president and chief operating officer, Wider Circle. “By strategically investing in both our technology talent and infrastructure, we are reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that the right back end foundation is in place to meet the evolving member analytics needs of our Medicare and Medicaid plan partners.”
